About ASP

Built by people who've worked the post.

Awareness Security Protection is a Maryland-based, veteran-owned security firm. The founders have spent years in federal law enforcement and the U.S. military, which is exactly why ASP runs the way it does.

Andre Gibson Jr., Founder of ASP
The origin

Most security firms hire fast. ASP hires last.

Andre Gibson Jr. spent his career in two environments that punish unprepared people: federal law enforcement and the U.S. military. Both taught him the same thing, just in different languages. Training matters more than uniform. Supervision matters more than scheduling. And the difference between a deterrent and a liability is whatever happens in the first thirty seconds.

When he looked at the private security industry in Maryland, what he saw was the inverse. Companies hiring anyone with a clean background and a state card, putting them on a post with a copy-paste set of orders, and hoping nothing happened until the contract renewed. The math worked for the firm. It didn't work for the client, and it definitely didn't work for the officer.

ASP was built to operate the other direction. Slower hiring, more training, real supervision, and a managing partner who answers the phone. The trade-off is that ASP can't take every contract that comes in the door, which turns out to be the most important feature.

"The difference between a deterrent and a liability is whatever happens in the first thirty seconds. You don't train for that in a weekend."

The company launched in 2025 with three core services: armed security, unarmed security, and consulting. It's licensed in Maryland and deploys across seven Mid-Atlantic states. The leadership is small, intentional, and accountable. That's the entire pitch.

— Our Mission
What we operate on

Four principles. Non-negotiable.

Security companies put a lot of words on their about pages. These are the four that show up in how ASP actually operates — in hiring, in training, in client meetings, and on post.

— 01

Safety & Trust

The client decides what "secure" feels like. We deliver that, and we don't ask them to trust us before we've earned it. Trust is built by the third shift, not the first conversation.

— 02

Reliability & Integrity

The officer shows up on time. The report shows up the next morning. The invoice matches the contract. If we drop one of these, we tell the client before they notice, and then we fix it.

— 03

Vigilance & Professionalism

An officer who looks bored is doing their job wrong. Every shift is a paid attention span. We train for that and we supervise for that, every site, every assignment.

— 04

Responsiveness & Respect

The client gets a human on the line. Officers de-escalate before they enforce. Property managers, tenants, vendors, and visitors all get treated like they pay the bill, because in different ways, they all do.

How ASP works

Five things that separate ASP from the alternative.

Most of what makes a security firm worth hiring happens before an officer ever sets foot on your site. Here's what's different about how we run.

01
We hire slow.
Every officer clears federal and state background checks, drug testing, and a structured interview before they touch a uniform. We turn down more applicants than we hire. The roster is small on purpose.
02
We train past the minimum.
State minimums are exactly that. Every ASP officer completes a 40+ hour internal curriculum before deployment, then quarterly refreshers in use-of-force, de-escalation, and emergency response — every year they work for us.
03
We supervise on-site.
Field supervisors run post inspections, surprise audits, and officer welfare checks during the shift. The officer knows we're coming. The client knows the report is real.
04
We write the plan first.
No contract begins without a walk-through and a written security plan. Post orders are specific to your site, your risks, and your operating hours — not pulled off a template shelf.
05
We answer the phone.
The dispatch line connects to a real person, 24/7. Account questions reach a managing partner, not an inbox. If you have to chase your security company for an answer, you have the wrong security company.
